Two-Factor Authentication

Feature Summary

The Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) feature in GSatTrack provides an extra layer of security, ensuring that only authorized users can access sensitive information within the platform. This feature significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access by requiring a unique, time-sensitive code and a standard username and password.

Overview

Two-factor authentication in GSatTrack enhances the security of user accounts by integrating a second verification step. This involves identifying a trusted device that generates a unique code for each login attempt. Users can develop these codes from various authentication apps, such as Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, or Windows Authenticator. Enabling 2FA is straightforward and can be configured through the security settings in the portal's Manage Module.

How-to Use

How-to: Configure Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication allows users to secure their accounts by requiring a trusted device to verify each login session. This process involves:

  1. Install an Authentication App: Choose and install an app like Google Authenticator, Duo Mobile, or Windows Authenticator on your trusted device.

  2. Enable 2FA in GSatTrack:

    • Open the Config Module in the portal.
    • Select Security from the List Panel.
    • Click the "Enable Two-Factor Authentication" button.
    • Record your Recovery Codes for account access if you lose your trusted device.
  3. Setup Authentication:

    • Scan the QR code with your app or manually enter the authentication key.
    • Enter the generated 6-digit code into the portal to confirm and enable 2FA.

Recovery Codes

Upon enabling 2FA, you receive a set of recovery codes. These codes, formatted as eight-character alphanumeric strings with two blocks separated by a dash, are crucial for account access if your trusted device is unavailable. Store them securely, as they are your backup access method.
