Feature Summary
Places are virtual markers or geographic points of interest that users can create and manage on the map within GSatTrack. These places can be real-world locations, such as job sites, warehouses, distribution centers, checkpoints, or areas of specific operational significance. The Places feature empowers users to define, organize, and monitor these locations, enhancing asset tracking, safety, and operational efficiency.
How to Use
How-To: Add Places
Go to the navigation menu and click on ‘Add Item’
Click on ‘Add Place’
There are three options to add a place:
- Latitude & Longitude: Simply type in the exact grid coordinates where the ‘Place’ is to be added
- Address Search: Type in a registered physical address
- Click on the map: Simply zoom in to where the desired ‘Place’ should be added and click on the map
Fill out the information for any other optional fields
Click on ‘Create Place’
How-To: Edit Places
- Go to the navigation menu and click on ‘Places’ icon
- Click on ‘Place Options’ icon next to the desired place
- Click on ‘Edit Place’
- Make the desired changes and click ‘Save Changes’
How-To: Delete Places
- Go to the navigation menu and click on ‘Places’ icon
- Click on ‘Place Options’ icon next to the desired place
- Click on ‘Delete Place’
- Click ‘Delete’ on the popup window

Use Case
Places are designed to be visible objects or items on the map that interact with other GSatTrack features and store information. A place can be a physical address or a simple latitude and longitude. There are many ways in which places can be used with additional features. Some common uses are:
- Building Location - A place can be used to show where an office, home, business, or another important physical building is located.
- Geographic Feature - A place can be used to designate a natural land feature or barrier.
- WaypointPoint - A place can be used to designate the start point, middle point, and/or end point of a route or journey.
Places are often combined with other features to explain how those features interact with their environment. Common uses of other features include:
- Alert - When the preset criteria have been met, an alert will trigger on the portal, notifying designated users of the event(s).
- Assets - Being able to track when an asset enters, exits, and/or interacts with a place.
- Geofence - A place will only show a single point of contact on the map, so when paired with a geofence, it can help users understand the full size of the designated place like a building, property, pasture, mountain range, road, or others.
- Report - Users can generate reports like the Asset Location Report, which will provide information on where an asset or group of assets are located in relation to a place, whether it is nearby or far from it.

Asset Management: Asset owners can define and manage places to monitor asset location in relation to important locations or customer delivery points.
Field Service Operations: Service organizations can utilize Places to monitor field personnel's location in relation to service locations, improving task assignment and response times.
