Protrack

Device Summary

The Protrack VT02F, VT03F, VT05F, and VT08F are 4G LTE cellular GPS trackers for vehicle and asset tracking. Once pointed at the GSatTrack platform, each device keeps a TCP connection open over the cellular network and reports its position on the interval you configure. GSatTrack records the position reports and the device's alarms — SOS, external power cut, vibration, geofence entry and exit, overspeed, movement, power on, low battery, and tamper — against the asset.

Server Routing

Point the device at the following server. The device connects to GSatTrack over TCP; the same address and port apply to all four models.

Setup

The device is configured by SMS commands sent to the phone number of the SIM card installed in it. Send each command as a separate text message with nothing added before or after it. Every command ends with #, and the device replies by SMS to confirm each one.

1. Insert an activated SIM card with a data plan and power the device on.

2. Set the APN for your carrier (the SIM card provider supplies these values):

   • APN,{APN}#
   • If your carrier requires a username and password: APN,{APN},{Username},{Password}#

3. Point the device at GSatTrack:

   • SERVER,1,protocolparser.com,4844,0#

   The 1 tells the device that the address is a host name rather than an IP address. Keep the trailing 0.

4. Optionally set the reporting interval, in seconds, for ignition on and ignition off (default 10 and 10):

   • TIMER,{Ignition On Seconds},{Ignition Off Seconds}#
   • Example: TIMER,30,300# reports every 30 seconds while the ignition is on and every 5 minutes while it is off.

5. If the device does not come online within a few minutes, restart it:

   • RESET#

Add the Asset in GSatTrack

Position reports are only stored once the device exists as an asset in GSatTrack.

1. Go to the navigation menu and click on 'Add Item', then 'Add Asset'.
2. Choose the matching Device: Protrack VT02F, VT03F, VT05F, or VT08F.
3. Enter the device's 15-digit IMEI printed on the label (the PARAM# command below also returns it).
4. Click on 'Create Asset'.

Troubleshooting

• The device is not shown as reporting in GSatTrack: send STATUS#. If the reply does not show GPRS: Link Up, check that the SIM card has an active data plan and that the APN is set correctly (GPRSSET#). Then confirm the server line reads Server:1,protocolparser.com,4844,0;.
• The device is connected but positions do not appear: confirm the asset's IMEI in GSatTrack matches the IMEI returned by PARAM#, and that the correct Protrack device type was chosen.
• No GPS fix: STATUS# shows the GPS state. First fix after installation can take one to two minutes with a clear view of the sky.
