Map Layers

Map Layers: Iridium NEXT Satellites

The Iridium NEXT Satellites map layer in GSatTrack overlays data from the Iridium NEXT low Earth orbit (LEO) constellation, showing the location, status, and availability of its satellites. This helps users understand coverage and connectivity when operating in remote areas, maritime environments, and other challenging terrain.

Key Features

  • Real-time Satellite Tracking — Monitor Iridium NEXT satellite orbits, positions, and connectivity status in real time.

  • Coverage Visualization — See where coverage is global, limited, or unavailable to plan asset and device deployment.

  • Multi-satellite Connectivity — Connect to multiple Iridium NEXT satellites at once for redundancy and continuity.

  • Customizable Display — Overlay tracking data with terrain maps, asset locations, or communication paths.

  • Historical Data Analysis — Review past satellite orbits and connectivity for trend analysis and optimization.

  • Integration — Works with other GSatTrack features such as asset tracking, messaging, and geofencing.

Use Cases

  • Asset Tracking — Track vehicles, equipment, and personnel for operations in remote areas such as mining, forestry, and oil and gas.

  • Maritime Communication — Maintain reliable links with vessels and offshore platforms for connectivity and safety at sea.

  • Emergency Response — Establish communication networks in disaster-affected or inaccessible areas to coordinate rescue and relief.

  • Remote Monitoring — Collect and transmit data from remote sensors, weather stations, and environmental monitoring devices.
