The MCG-101 was designed to provide the most powerful and versatile Iridium communications system to offices, remote locations, aircraft, and maritime. The system provides an intelligent solution for Iridium satellite phones to operate as a telephone, Internet gateway, intelligent GPS device, and attach to other devices through USB, and ethernet.

Version 2 Background

Pandemic induced chip shortages in 2020 forced a redesign of the board for the MCG-101 and thus the MCG-101 v2 was born. The MCG-101 v2 has a few changes in the hardware outlined in the table below and does not have an analog phone port (POTS line/FXS). Because of the hardware differences, the firmware is incompatible across versions so the MCG-101 firmware cannot be run on the MCG-101 v2.

Equipment Overview

The MCG-101 is a wall mounted satellite terminal that contains Iridium technology. The terminal contains an internal SIM card that must be installed. The MCG-101 also has an exposed connector for attaching the required external antenna. The status of the entire system can be monitored through an attached computer.
