Map Layers
Map Layers
Feature Summary
The Map Layers feature in GSatTrack allows users to overlay different layers of geographic information onto their maps, providing valuable context and enhancing situational awareness. Users can choose from a variety of map layers, including street maps, satellite imagery, topographic maps, weather overlays, and more. By customizing the display of geographical data, users can visualize asset locations, routes, geofences, and other relevant information in a manner that best suits their operational requirements.
Additional Information
How-To: Enable Map Layers
- Go to the Map Mode Indicator in the top right-hand corner of the portal and click on “Layers”

- Interact with the enabled Map Layer
How-To: Disable Map Layers
- Go to the Map Mode Indicator in the top right-hand corner of the portal and click on “Layers”
- Click on the desired Map Layer
- Map Layer will no longer be visible
Key Features
- Multiple Map Layer Options: Offers a wide range of map layer options, including street maps, satellite imagery, topographic maps, and weather overlays, among others.
- Customizable Layer Transparency: Allows users to adjust the transparency of map layers, providing flexibility in blending multiple layers for improved visualization.
- Real-time Data Integration: Supports integration with real-time data feeds, enabling users to overlay dynamic data such as asset locations, weather conditions, or traffic updates onto their maps.
- Geofence and Route Display: Enables the display of geofences and routes as map layers, allowing users to visualize predefined geographic areas and planned or historical routes.
- Layer Grouping and Organization: Facilitates the grouping and organization of map layers, ensuring a structured and efficient approach to managing multiple layers within the platform.
- Custom Layer Creation: Provides options for users to create custom map layers, allowing for the integration of proprietary or specialized geographical data sources.
Use Cases
The Map Layers feature is valuable in a variety of operational scenarios:
- Asset Tracking and Monitoring: Overlay real-time asset locations onto a street map or satellite imagery layer to monitor asset movements and activities in a geographical context.
- Weather Monitoring and Analysis: Display weather overlays such as radar images or temperature maps to monitor weather conditions in areas where assets are deployed, facilitating operational planning and risk management.
- Geofence Visualization: Overlay geofences onto a street map or satellite imagery layer to visualize predefined geographic areas and monitor asset movements within designated boundaries.
- Route Planning and Optimization: Display planned routes or historical travel paths as map layers to analyze route efficiency, identify bottlenecks, and optimize future travel plans.
- Terrain Analysis: Overlay topographic maps or elevation data to analyze terrain characteristics and elevation profiles along asset routes, aiding in route planning for terrain-specific challenges.
- Traffic and Infrastructure Monitoring: Overlay traffic flow data or infrastructure layers onto maps to monitor traffic conditions, road closures, or construction zones, facilitating route adjustments and avoiding delays.
