Iridium OpenPort
Device Summary
The Iridium OpenPort device is a highly reliable satellite communication solution designed specifically for maritime applications. Offering voice, data, and internet connectivity, the Iridium OpenPort operates on the global Iridium satellite network, ensuring seamless communication in remote oceanic regions where traditional communication methods may fail. Integrated with the GSatTrack platform, this device is ideal for shipping companies, fishing fleets, and maritime operators looking for a comprehensive communication solution to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
Tracking Setup
Iridium Pilot can be used as a tracking device when coupled with a RedPort Optimizer http://www.redportglobal.com/marine-satellite-internet-firewall-routers/optimizer-satellite-firewall-and-wi-fi-hotspot/ REQUIREMENTS:
Optimizer MUST be connected DIRECTLY to the OpenPort/Pilot. It CANNOT be behind a router. If this is not possible, please contact us for an engineer to walk you through configuration file editing
Optimizer firmware version 1.10 or newer
Creating the asset in the tracking platform
Asset ID is the connected Iridium Openport/Pilot IMEI 30xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Enable Tracking on the Optimizer
Contact your tracking platform provider for a tracking account
WiFi connects to the optimizer
Open a browser and navigate to http://192.168.10.1
Login to the router using username: admin and password: webxaccess
Navigate to System->Tracking
Enable tracking with OpenPort
Set the tracking interval
Each tracking report consumes 25 bytes of data which is very little over this satellite system. Tracking will not impact your airtime costs in any significant way.
Optimizer Firmware Upgrade
While connected to the internet download and store on your computer the following file http://www.globalmarinenet.com/downloads/wxa/wxa-100
WiFi connection to the Optimizer
Open a web browser and navigate to http://192.168.10.1
Login using username: admin password: webxaccess.
- Note that older versions of the optimizer may require a root username. Please consult the quick start guide that came with your device for the correct username
Navigate to System->Firmware
Uncheck “keep settings” very important
Browse for the file downloaded in step 1
Proceed with the upgrade, the optimizer will reboot when done
