iOS Devices

Device Summary

iOS Devices paired with GSatTrack provide a versatile and user-friendly platform for tracking and communication in various applications. Utilizing the capabilities of iPhones and iPads, these devices leverage satellite tracking technology to offer real-time location updates, messaging features, and data management functionalities. This integration allows users to monitor assets, facilitate communication, and enhance operational efficiency, making iOS devices an invaluable tool in both personal and professional settings.

Configuration

Tracking Behavior

Note !

Setup is covered in the iOS Devices section of the Mobile Application page.

Position reports are made between every 2 minutes and 30 seconds depending on whether the device is moving.

Not Moving

The app will send its last acquired position every 2 minutes.

Moving

  • The GPS Sensitivity setting in the app influences how frequently moving updates are made:
  • For “Default 100m”, “Cell Tower Only Bat Saver +” and “Cell Tower Only Bat Saver ++” these updates will occur when the position changes more than 100 meters.
  • For “Higher Accuracy Bat Drain -“, “Always On Bat Drain --” and “Navigation Bat Drain --” these updates will occur when the position changes more than 25 meters.
  • When moving quickly these updates are limited to every 30 seconds. When not moving more than the thresholds above it follows the “Not Moving” behavior.

Report Sizes

approximately 3kB in size.

iOS Device Reporting Accuracy

Description:

iOS devices utilized for tracking operate in a motion detection mode that accurately reports when the device is moving, while maintaining low power usage. This means that data is updated as the device moves, and not on a specific reporting rate/timer. The available options are detailed below, which ultimately determine battery usage vs reported location accuracy:

  • Default 100m: Expected Accuracy: 100m Battery Usage: average desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyHundredMeters;

  • Higher Accuracy: Expected Accuracy: 10m Battery Usage: high desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyNearestTenMeters;

  • Always On: Expected Accuracy: <10m Battery Usage: highest desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyBest;

  • Navigation: Expected Accuracy: <10m Battery Usage: very high desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyBestForNavigation;

  • Cell Tower Low Accuracy: Expected Accuracy: 1km Battery Usage: low desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyKilometer;

  • Cell Tower Lowest Accuracy: Expected Accuracy: 3km Battery Usage: lowest DesiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyThreeKilometers;

  • Desired Accuracy: refers to the level of location precision you wish to achieve. The location service will make every effort to meet your specified accuracy; however, it cannot guarantee this outcome. To optimize power consumption, it's important to select an appropriate accuracy level based on your usage scenario. For example, using a larger accuracy value is advisable when only a general location is needed.
