Map Tools

Interpoint Visuals

Feature Summary

The Interpoint Visuals feature in GSatTrack is an advanced tool designed to enhance the visualization and analysis of spatial data between multiple points on a map. It allows users to draw lines, measure distances, and analyze spatial relationships between points, providing valuable insights for planning and decision-making.

Overview

The Interpoint Visuals feature in GSatTrack enables users to create visual connections between multiple points on a map. This feature allows for the measurement of distances, the creation of paths, and the analysis of spatial relationships. The Interpoint Visuals feature helps users better understand and manage their assets and operations by visually linking points and providing detailed data on these connections.

Additional Information

On any map view, displaying multiple positions for each asset, representing the sequence of those points, and tracking the paths of individual assets can be extremely valuable for historical monitoring. The portal offers various options for interpoint visualization, including intelligent summaries detailed in the Information Panels article.

Lines

Users can have the software draw lines between consecutive positions, which will be displayed on the map in both live and history modes. These lines fade over time, making older positions and lines less prominent than newer ones.

Users can toggle the display of lines between points at the asset level. To do this, click the gear icon next to any asset, select "Edit Asset," and then go to "Settings." From there, choose "Yes" or "No" under the "Draw Lines Between Positions" option.

Snap Lines to Roads

By default, interpoint lines are shown as direct connections between points without calculating the route. Below the "Draw Lines Between Positions" setting, users can toggle the "Snap Lines to Roads" feature on or off.

When enabled, lines between points will visually represent the asset's movement along the most likely road paths. Since devices do not report their routes, these segments will be the portal’s best estimates, helping managers visualize how an asset likely traveled from point to point.

It’s important to note that enabling the "Snap Lines to Roads" option may increase calculation processing time. This can lead to delays when accessing lengthy historical data sets. It may become problematic when many assets calculate paths between their reported positions, even with a selected short data period.

No Visuals

If the option is toggled off, assets will not display lines between points, and users cannot view interpoint summaries for those assets.

Interpoint Summaries

Lines between points calculate averages, and users can view this data in Interpoint Summaries. For more information, please refer to the Summary Panel article.
