Additional Information
Journeys are saved collections of segments of asset history that can be displayed on the map interface, whether in Live Mode or History Mode. Each segment within a Journey is referred to as a Trip. A Journey can consist of multiple Trips, and each Trip can include numerous data points.
Journeys
Journeys are dynamic container objects whose display properties depend on the Trips they contain.
Journey Fields
Details:
- Name: Displayed in the List Panel and on the map interface when the Journey is selected.
- Asset: Each Journey is associated with a specific Asset.
- Description: This is shown in the Summary Panel when the Journey is selected on the map interface.
- Color: Used in both the List Panel and the map interface to differentiate it from other Journeys.
- Status: An Enabled/Disabled toggle determines the Journey's visibility on the map interface.
Journeys in the Details Panel
Clicking the Multicog Button on any Journey opens the Journey Options in the Details Panel. Here, users can edit or delete the Journey and view all Notification Details for each Trip within the Journey.
Users will find navigation options at the top of the panel. The name of the selected Journey appears in a drop-down menu, allowing users to switch between Journeys. Left and Right arrows enable navigation through Journeys in the order they appear in the List Panel.
Journey Options
- Edit Journey: Opens the Edit Journey page for changing properties, adding Trips, editing existing Trips, or deleting Trips.
- Delete Journey: Permanently remove the Journey and all its Trips.
Journeys in Other Map Modules
Journeys can be viewed in any map interface if their visibility is toggled on or accessed in the Journeys Module for editing and management. Similar to Places and Geofences, journeys are static display elements that will appear the same regardless of the viewing mode or active module.
Journeys in the Map Interface
When a Journey is visible, it will appear as a static element on any map interface, displaying a collection of positions for the included Assets and the selected data range. Users can choose to display the entire segment with each point plotted or only the start and end points. All interpoint lines drawn between Journeys will be dashed to differentiate them from regular history lines.
Users who create Journeys with multiple Trips can also toggle the visibility of each Trip.
Using Journeys
The Journeys feature allows users to display significant segments of an asset’s reporting history while viewing live or historical data outside those Journeys' date ranges. This capability enables comparisons between multiple data sets and enhances the utility of other features, such as Waypoints.
Journeys are also beneficial for adventurers who want to showcase specific segments of history in Shared Views. They allow them to identify particular outings, hikes, routes, or excursions, name them, and make them viewable without sharing access to a broader date range of data.
Trips
This section displays a list of all Trip segments included in the Journey, along with interactive options for each:
- Edit Button: Allows users to modify the Trip.
- Delete Button: Removes the Trip from the Journey.
- Enabled Status: Indicates whether the Trip will be displayed in the Journey on the map interface. Journeys can be toggled with some or all of their Trips enabled.
The list also shows each segment's Name, Beginning and End Dates, and whether all data points or only endpoints are visible.
Add Trip
This feature allows users to add Trip segments directly to the Journey. For more information, refer to the Trip Fields section.
Trip Fields
Name: Displayed in the List Panel.
Date Range of Data: Specifies the beginning and end of the Trip segment.
Display Options:
- Include All Positions: All positions reported during the date range will be visible on the map interface.
- Only Show Start and End Positions: The most and least recent positions reported during the date range will be visible.
Status: An Enabled/Disabled toggle that determines the visibility of the Trip segment in the Journey on the map view.
Trips in the List Panel
Since Trips are segments of asset history, they are displayed in the List Panel like Assets with reported history and unchecked notifications. Users can toggle the visibility of each Trip by clicking the visibility icon and access Trip Options by clicking the cog button next to the Trip’s name.
Trips in the Details Panel
Trip Options
- Edit Trip: Users can modify the Trip segment and its properties.
- Delete Trip: Users can remove the Trip segment without affecting the Journey or other Trips. If the last remaining Trip in a Journey is deleted, the Journey will remain, but no data will be displayed.
Notifications
In the List Panel, Journeys serve as containers and support high-level notification summaries. Notification Boxes appear under the Journey names, similar to individual Assets or Asset Journeys, with indicators lighting up if any Trips in the Journey have notifications.
Icons and Buttons
- The Folder Icon next to each Journey indicates the number of Trips it contains and can be clicked to expand or collapse the list of Trips.
- The Visibility Toggle at the Journey level is both dynamic and clickable. If toggled manually, it behaves like other visibility toggles. If not manually toggled, it reflects the visibility status of the Trips within the Journey, displaying as fully visible, partially visible, or entirely invisible.
- The Multicog Icon opens the Journey Options in the details panel.
Notification Tabs
Other tabs in the Details Panel allow users to view expanded versions of each Notification type and interact with those Notifications. For more information, see the article on Notifications.
Notification Panels
Similar to other Details Panel options, Trips have tabs for Notification types, allowing users to browse the entire list of each Notification type.
