Additional Information
Bulk Uploads
Adding Objects to the portal is a straightforward and streamlined process that leverages a standard and consistent user experience involving the Add Item Module. Creating an ecosystem or transitioning to the portal from another service should be as seamless as building from the first Object, and the Import tool allows users to bulk upload Places, Geofences, and Contacts from other services using a single file.
Importing Places
Users often import Places from services like Google Maps, where they’ve stored a list of “want to go” locations, “been here” locations, or customer locations. These Places can be exported from the Google Maps product as a single KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file and saved to the user’s local machine. The user can then upload the KML file from the Places Module to the portal.
How-to: Bulk Import Places
- Open the Places Module
- Click the Quick Actions Menu (Dot Menu) at the top of the List Panel
- Select Import Places
- Browse and select the KML file from the local machine
- Click Upload
- Select all Places you wish to import (anything with a Green check mark next to its name will be imported)
- Click Import Places/Geofences
Importing Geofences
Users often import Geofences from services like Google Earth or other tracking platforms, where they’ve defined and stored several Geofences. These Geofences can be exported from the third-party product as a single KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file and saved to the user’s local machine. The user can then upload the KML file from the Geofences Module to the portal.
How-to: Bulk Import Geofences
- Open the Geofences Module
- Click the Quick Actions Menu (Dot Menu) at the top of the List Panel
- Select Import Geofences
- Browse and select the KML file from the local machine
- Click Upload
- Select all Geofences you wish to import (anything with a Green check mark next to its name will be imported)
- Click Import Places/Geofences
Import Contacts
Like how users can import Places and Geofences, users can bulk upload Contacts via CSV or vCard files. Any contact or address book management software, spreadsheet software, or communications service product can generate these file types. Be aware that Contacts in the portal are simply email addresses or phone numbers saved and stored as the anchor element. Contacts are not similar to Contacts in other software, which puts the Contact’s Name as the anchor element. This is because of the way the portal interacts with contacts, which is to see them as stored phone numbers and email addresses that are endpoints for alerts and messages sent from the portal.
